This cabin was absolutely beautiful and exceeded all expectations! It's tucked away in a peaceful, remote location surrounded by incredible scenery. Our host Duc was fabulous — friendly, responsive, and extremely accommodating. If you're looking for a serene escape, this is the place.
Vida Bonita is an incredible place to stay for some amazing cabin vibes. The cabin itself was great, with room for everyone, wonderful views, and was very peaceful and quiet. The nearby trails are also great for hiking and adventure. Very restorative.
Amazing stay! I highly recommend this property! It was so peaceful and pleasant. We fished and hiked to the caves which are not too far up the road. We will definitely return — one of the best cabin experiences we've had.
Duc responded right away, answering all our questions. He gave us a lot of insight on where to eat and activities to do. Beautiful drive up to his property and amazing views. Absolutely loved all the animals he has on property. He's the man.
Excelente lugar para venir y relajarte, el ambiente es algo hermoso. Las gallinas, pavos, patos y venados — los amé. El anfitrión siempre está atento a tus necesidades. Sin duda un lugar al que regresaría sin dudar.
Local Guide
When you stay at Vida Bonita Pecos, you're in the heart of Northern New Mexico's finest outdoor and cultural experiences.
Just a short walk from your cabin, Cowles Ponds is a peaceful, scenic spot known for excellent trout fishing. Bring your rod, license, and favorite lures — or ask Duc for local recommendations.
Located minutes from Vida Bonita Pecos, the Windsor Trail offers iconic hiking through the Santa Fe National Forest — wildflowers, wildlife, and stunning mountain views.
Travel through time at ancestral Pueblo ruins, a Civil War battlefield, and a preserved Spanish mission church — 30 minutes from the property, perfect for families and history lovers.
One of New Mexico's most beautiful mountain drives. Follow the Pecos River along winding Hwy 63, pulling over at scenic stops with towering pines and granite cliffs.
A short drive away, the Monastery of Christ in the Desert offers peaceful grounds, a gift shop with handcrafted goods, and a serene retreat from the modern world.
Local guides offer horseback excursions through mountain trails and forested meadows — a perfect experience for kids or first-time visitors to the Pecos Canyon.
At 7,700 ft elevation with minimal light pollution, the skies above Vida Bonita Pecos are extraordinary. Expect the Milky Way, constellations, and meteor showers on clear nights.
In just over an hour, explore Santa Fe's renowned art galleries, historic sites, and Southwestern cuisine. Don't miss Canyon Road or the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
Elk, deer, wild turkeys, hummingbirds, and more roam the property. Keep your camera ready — our resident chickens, ducks, and turkeys are always happy for a visit.
Sometimes the best activity is doing absolutely nothing. Sip your morning coffee as the sun rises over the forest, listen to the Pecos River, and breathe deeply.
Getting Here
Vida Bonita Pecos is tucked into the mountains along scenic Highway 63, just north of the village of Pecos. The drive itself is half the experience — a winding mountain road following the river through ancient canyon walls and towering ponderosa pines.
We recommend a truck or SUV for the final stretch to the property, especially in winter months. 4WD is a plus but not required in dry conditions.
Know Before You Go
All six accommodations sit on 12 private acres along the mountainside — each tucked into the forest with its own private outdoor space, yet close enough to the river and trails to walk everywhere.
The Ponderosa Main Lodge is your central landmark. From there, the Crestview Cabin overlooks the trout pond to the north, the Aspen Elevated Cabin and Aspen Outpost sit elevated to the east, and the Twin Pines Duplex and Retro Camper are tucked further down the property. Cowles Ponds and the Winsor Hiking Trails are just up the road.

"Rad Rustic RV right of the Pecos in God's country. Close enough to hit the river and streams and explore the Pecos Wilderness. The doggos Luna and Molly were awesome. Will definitely stay again if we are in the Pecos area and may grab one of his cabins if we have a larger group. Thanks Duc!!!"
